DIY Painting Like A Pro

So you just moved into your new home and you’re looking to customize it with a little paint, but aren't quite sure where to begin? No need to call the pros in just yet, you can easily paint your home with just a few simple tools and tips!

Splurge on high-quality tools

You're already splurging on high-quality paint, so don't skip out on good brushes and rollers! High-quality brushes and rollers give better coverage, so you won't be wasting time and paint on re-application. Don't forget the painter's tape!

Know your texture

THe more texture your walls have, the thicker the roller cover you will want, so that it can reach into crevices and give complete coverage.

Wait for dry weather

The majority of the year is pretty humid in the Houston area, but avoid painting on an extremely humid or rainy day. If the air is full of moisture, paints will be very slow to dry! If you must paint during this time, take yout time and make sure paint is completely dry before moving on to the next coat.

Remove anything you don't want painted

Don't be impatient when it comes to removing light switches and outlet covers, you will regret it later! Also spend time covering flooring, furniture, doorknobs, and anything else you don't want painted.

Box your paint

Boxing your paint is a way to ensure color consistency throughout a project that uses more than one gallon. The term just means combining all the paint you'll be using into one large container and mixing it. The salesperson can definitely help you with this!

Paint from top to bottom

After painting in the corners and edges at the ceiling and baseboard using a brush, use your roller to apply paint from the ceiling downward. Once the area dries, leave it alone, going over it will leave marks and color streaks!
