Setting Up a Home Gym for Any Space

Having a home gym does not necessarily mean you have to break the bank on equipment or have big bulky machines to effectively work out. Here are some tips on setting up a home gym that will help meet your goals.

Space

Before you can start any workout, you need to find out where you want to set up your home gym. What will determine your space is the type of exercise you want to do. If you are doing a HITT workout you will probably need more space than if you are doing yoga and core exercises. You can dedicate an unused corner in your bedroom, living room, or even your back porch/patio if weather permits. If you have an unused bedroom/study that you can turn into a fitness room, even better!

Equipment

Larger equipment can be expensive and tough to store if you are tight on space. Here are some great ideas that can be easily stored, while still getting a challenging workout in. If you are not a runner, buying a jump rope is a great alternative for cardio. If you want more of a challenging workout, buy a weighted jump rope. Instead of a cable machine, dumbbells and kettlebells will allow you to get a similar work out without taking up all the space. A pair of adjustable dumbbells is a great option if you do not want to have a complete set of dumbbells as you can easily adjust the weight on one pair of dumbbells. Resistance bands and sliding gliding discs are other pieces of equipment for muscle toning that does not come with storing concerns and are great for a full body workout. Having a floor mat is a great addition for stretching or ab exercises and is not a pain to store either.

Storage

Depending on what type of equipment you have depends on your storing methodologies. It might be as easy as putting all your work out equipment in a storage box that can slide under your bed or behind the couch. If you have more equipment than can go in a storage box, storing your equipment on an empty wall is a great solution. For your dumbbells and kettlebells, you can buy a storing rack if you do not want to put them in a box.

Schedule

Once you have your home gym put together, it’s time to put it in use! Dedicating a time to work out can be challenging if you have a busy schedule. However, consistency is key. Set a time each day to dedicate to your fitness journey and you will be meeting your goals in no time.
