Quick Tips for Spring Cleaning

Spring is here! That means it’s time to clean out your homefor a fresh start. Below are some tips and tricks for cleaning out your house that you might not do as often as you should!

CLEAN YOUR MICROWAVE

Microwaves are used more than we realize. How many times a day do you use your microwave to re-heat leftovers or melt butter? Think about how all the scents stay trapped in that box and build up over time. This should be done at least once a week or when there’s obvious splatter.

To clean out your microwave follow these steps:

  1. Grab a microwave safe bowl and fill it with water and a dash of dish soap
  2. Run the microwave for about two minutes
  3. Take the bowl and the turntable out
  4. Wipe down the interior with a wet wag
  5. Wipe down the turntable before re-inserting

CLEAN YOUR SHOWERHEAD

After showering multiple times a week your showerhead buildup magnifies extremely fast. It’s necessary to clean out this buildup at least once a year and spring cleaning is the perfect time to do so.

  1. Grab a bag and mix equal parts of distilled white vinegar and hot water (add a dash of sodium for extra strong cleaning)
  2. Submerge the showerhead into the bag to where buildup can soak off and let the showerhead soak for a couple of hours
  3. Remove bag and scrub the showerhead face (if any spray holes are clogged use a pin to poke through them)
  4. Use a vinegar-water solution in a spray bottle to spray down the showerhead and wipe any leftover residue with a rag

REMOVE PET HAIR FROM RUG/CARPET

Do you have pets? If so, you know that most of them can shed like crazy. Now that winter has passed your pet can run around outside instead of spending the day shedding on your rug. A useful trick is using the rubber edge of a window squeegee to remove the pet hair. Finish off by running a vacuum the suck up any leftover hair.

REFRIDGERATOR AND PANTRY

Refrigerators and pantries can become really cluttered fast. It’s important that you clean out both regularly to rid of bacteria and old food. Start by clearing out all the food and go through and check expiration dates to ensure that your food isn’t expired or moldy. Next, wipe down your fridge and pantry shelves/drawers with an antibacterial spray. As you put your food back in, organize it according by what type of food it is (dairy, fruits, vegetables, etc.).
